1996 STONEBURNER FAMILY REUNION
at Creekside
Edinburg, Virginia
Sun 1 Sept 1996
Creekside
Every year around Labor Day, except for years when it isn't around Labor Day,
the Stoneburners get together for a family reunion just to make sure we
remember each other's names and to make sure no one's married a cousin
or something horrible like that.
Before Lunch
Right before lunch a digitial camera
was pulled out and various shots were taken. The result was rather
successful, so we did it again fifteen
minutes later.
The Doxology
Tradition has it that before the meal line starts, the family gathers
and shares brief news and they sing the Doxology.
Obviously, since everyone was present, this was a good time for taking
more shots; only to be discovered that identifying people in this sea
of common genetic pooling was a little more than difficult.
Later That Day
Somewhere along the way the computer got usurped for geneology; it was
mid-afternoon before we reclaimed it for another
round of photos.
Touring the House
Creekside was originially owned by the Stoneburner family, then it was
sold, and rebought back by part of the Stoneburner clan. The house
is kind of a hybrid monument to the past and tolerance to modern day
rennovation. We managed to get a few shots of the
rooms upstairs.
The Magic Show
Near the end of the reunion, we were treated to a magic
show put on by one of the family members.
Everyone was There
Being deceased does have it's disadvantages when pertaining to mobilization.
So we hopped in the car and decided to go visit the rest of the family at
Union Forge cemetary close by. Near the cemetary was the
house my grandfather grew up in, and a short walk from that the one he was born
in. Apprently we were a month too late, the original house had been destroyed
by the floods caused by the last winter and was recently torn down. Few
pictures of it survived.
